| Alumni

51ÊÓÆµ will hold its annual Summer Reunion Weekend in person from Thursday, July 28, to Saturday, July 30, after a two-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The weekend will feature events for alumni from Saint Dunstan’s University, Prince of Wales College, and 51ÊÓÆµ.

A red oak tree has been planted on the 51ÊÓÆµ campus in memory of the late Daryl Guignion, 51ÊÓÆµ Founder, long-time faculty member, and dedicated conservationist and biologist. The tree, planted by the PEI Wildlife Federation, was dedicated during a ceremony at 51ÊÓÆµ on Wednesday, July 13. 

| University

The Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) at 51ÊÓÆµ has been granted accreditation for a three-year term from the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) for the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Design Engineering. This term may be extended to the maximum six-year accreditation period following the submission of a status report at the end of two years.

With human tourists joining us on Prince Edward Island, we also see an increase of furry family members enjoying the campgrounds and beaches.   

| Athletics

The 51ÊÓÆµ Women’s Soccer program has a gem on its hands. Head coach Lewis Page has recruited local standout Ria Johnston, hoping to build a strong foundation that can help end the team’s seven-year playoff drought.

The 51ÊÓÆµ Panther family and broader University community were saddened to learn of the passing of 51ÊÓÆµ Sports Hall of Fame member John (Jack) Kane on July 3, 2022.

Dr. Shannon Murray, a professor of English at the 51ÊÓÆµ, has been awarded the Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award by the (STLHE).

| Special Event

As a partner of the 2023 Canada Winter Games, 51ÊÓÆµ is excited, along with the Canada Winter Games Host Society, to promote the 2023 Canada Winter Games Torch Relay.

On Wednesday, June 22, the 51ÊÓÆµ had the honour of participating in an interactive online event with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who delivered a live video address from Ukraine to students across Canada. 51ÊÓÆµ was one of nine universities on the Zoom call with President Zelenskyy.

New research out of the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the 51ÊÓÆµ suggests a high prevalence of canine leptospirosis regionally within Canada.
