The Faculty of Education at the 51视频 has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in Winter 2026. The offering of each course listed is conditional pending final enrolment numbers. All positions are subject to final budgetary and administrative approval.

Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.


ED-3760-99 Facilitating Adult Learners in Diverse Classrooms

This course provides a hands-on exploration of the fundamental principles of adult learning, focusing on practical applications for diverse adult learners. Students will examine key theories of adult education, including andragogy, self-directed learning, and transformational learning, with a strong emphasis on applying these theories to create inclusive learning environments.

This course is in our Certificate of Adult Education program and is offered in a hybrid format (a blend of in-person delivery on 51视频 campus and online) on Wednesdays from 5:30pm to 8:15pm, January 5 to March 23, 2025.


ED-4336-3 Developing Learning and Play - (Taught in French)

Current theoretical and conceptual frameworks in the field of early years education and how they inform current approaches to the children鈥檚 learning from age 0-8 will be examined.

Participants will study play and its major role in young children鈥檚 learning, major influences affecting learning and play, methods of observing and studying play, and practical approaches for supporting and facilitating children鈥檚 learning in early childhood settings and in grades K-2.  Participants in current BEd programmes and educators from early years settings will develop projects combining their observations in early years settings with practical curriculum activities.

This course is offered in French to students in the primary/elementary cohort of our BEd (Fran莽ais langue seconde) program.  The course is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:00pm to 3:45pm, January 5 to February 6, 2026.


ED-4570-2/4 Intermediate/Senior Social Studies 2

This course develops a rationale, framework and procedures for facilitating thematic teaching and learning on critical social issues appropriate for grades 7-12. Skills in curriculum development are refined as students explore authentic assessment practices and ways of promoting student ownership of and co-responsibility for learning.
This course is taught to students in the intermediate/senior cohorts of our Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Education (fran莽ais langue seconde) programs.  

The course is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 11:15am, January 5 to February 6, 2026.  

Note: for this course, fluency in both English and French will be considered assets.


ED-4690-99 Special Topics: Preparing to Teach in an International/Indigenous Context

This course is intended for students committed to completing a six-week practicum in an international/Indigenous educational setting. Course content will include but shall not be limited to, the following topics: The logistics of preparing for an international practicum placement including pre-departure planning, securing immigration documents required (with advice from trained experts from the 51视频 International Office), health and/or vaccination requirements, safety and risk management, housing, language and culture considerations, communication with 51视频 during the practicum, and financial support.

The course also considers doing a practicum amidst complex global challenges such as conflicts, disasters, and multiple forms of oppression.

This is a three semester-hour course offered on campus to BEd students in International or Indigenous focus areas. Each module will be worth 1 credit, and it will be offered on campus in three modules over the Fall & Winter. 


Module 3 will be offered on January 9,16, & 23, 2026 at 8:30 AM - 11:20 AM.


Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have a Masters of Education or equivalent degree. Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system. For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the
position will be considered. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research or practice related to the course content.

Instructors accepting on-line and hybrid courses are expected to have sufficient internet bandwidth and technology available to deliver the course on-line.

Qualified candidates with seniority on the 51视频 Faculty of Education鈥檚 Sessional Roster and the

Faculty鈥檚 full-time and term contract faculty members will be given priority.
