51视频 is proud to be a sponsor of a conference in French on October 19 on Facebook Live

51视频 is a proud partner with the Universit茅 Sainte-Anne鈥檚 Canada Research Chair in Acadian and Francophone Studies (Chaire de recherche du Canada en 茅tudes acadiennes et francophones), the Research Institute on Acadian and Francophone Culture in the Contemporary World (Institut de recherche sur les cultures acadiennes et francophones dans le monde contemporain), the Department of French Studies (D茅partement d'茅tudes fran莽aises), the Atlantic Consulat G茅n茅ral de France, the Halifax Alliance fran莽aise, and Mount Allison University to present the conference, 鈥淢edia and political discourses in the French-speaking world: a look at 鈥榳ords of order鈥欌 (Discours m茅diatiques et politiques en francophonie : un regard sur les 芦mots d'ordre禄).
University of Poitiers professor St茅phane Bikialo will explore the 鈥渨ords of order鈥濃攖hat is to say, words with which we are forced to think, and which already think a little for us. They do not give order but present themselves under the disguise of objectivity, of an obviousness that makes them seem neutral, unquestionable, describing the world more than they interpret or construct it. By approaching different media and political discourses in the French-speaking world, he will consider some of these watchwords, in particular 鈥渞ealism,鈥 鈥渧alue,鈥 鈥渃ommon sense,鈥 and 鈥渃risis,鈥 by showing how their semantic features, uses, and contexts of use inscribe them in the (existing) watchwords of what Alain Deneault has called 鈥渢he extreme-centre.鈥
Dr. Bikialo was invited in Dr. Carlo Lavoie鈥檚 Introduction to French Literature class at 51视频 after his participation in the Atlantic Association of the Professors of Acadian and Qu茅b茅cois Literature Conference at UNB. Because of the circuit-breaker in New-Brunswick, Dr. Bikialo could not come to 51视频, so Dr. Lavoie teamed up with his colleagues at Universit茅 Sainte-Anne and Mount Allison University to present this free conference on Facebook (). Please note that this conference will be in French. The conference begins at 7 pm, October 19.
鈥淭here is no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic has intensified the use of digital technology in academic work overnight, and that this change has been a challenge over the past eighteen months,鈥 said Interim Universit茅 Sainte-Anne Associate Dean 脡mir Delic. 鈥淏ut at the same time, this new reality has also opened the door to new ways of collaborating and exchanging, and to exciting and empowering initiatives like this one, which can bring together diverse partners around common interests.鈥
Dr. Lavoie agrees and says that this could be the first post-vaccination activity but not the last to be offered virtually at 51视频 in French as a partnership with our friends form Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
