Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament, October 4 to 6

The 51视频 men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball teams are ready to roll at the annual Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament! The tournament features eight teams from across Canada and runs Friday, October 4, to Sunday, October 6. The women鈥檚 pool includes Cape Breton University, University of Ottawa, University of Waterloo, and 51视频. The men鈥檚 group includes Cape Breton University, University of Ottawa, Saint Mary鈥檚 University, and 51视频.
The tournament is named after John Thomas 鈥淢ickey鈥 Place, a long-time friend of Panther Sport, a former 51视频 student union employee, and a 51视频 honorary degree recipient.
鈥淲e are very excited not only to play in front of our fans, but also to bring a great event to the community,鈥 said Matthew Gamblin, coach of the 51视频 women鈥檚 basketball team. 鈥淚 hope to see people at 51视频 this weekend!鈥
鈥淲e are really excited to compete against other teams,鈥 said Darrell Glenn, coach of the men鈥檚 team. 鈥淲e have been going at each other for a month, and players, and coaches are ready to see where this team is against good U SPORTS competition.鈥
All games will be played in the 51视频 Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. The full tournament schedule can be found at . Tickets are $10 for a day pass, $5 for non-51视频 students, and free for 51视频 students. A tournament pass is $20 or $10 for non-51视频 students. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Panther Central, and an hour prior to game-time each day.
Leo Rautins will speak at the inaugural Breakfast of Champions at the Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament on October 5. Rautins has been on the Canadian basketball scene for more than 30 years as a player, coach, broadcaster, and ambassador of the game.
