Artist Reception - Aug. 28, 2025 at 6 p.m. I Surbrugg Prentice Auditorium

June is an artist, illustrator, designer, and teacher based in Millbrook, NY. She lived in Laramie, Wyoming for seven years, and her time there continues to influence her creative and community-driven practice. Her paintings have been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London and Nature Morte Gallery in Berlin. She is represented by Kenise Barnes Fine Art (East Coast) and Visions West Contemporary (Rocky Mountain West).

Her work has appeared in New American Paintings, The Paris Review, The Wall Street Journal, and Guernica, among others, and has been featured in film, on book covers, and in various design collaborations. She is also the co-founder of the Wyoming Art Party.

June鈥檚 practice bridges solitary studio work鈥攑rimarily painting鈥攁nd collaborative, socially engaged projects that explore how individuals and communities are seen and how they see themselves.

Where Afro-Caribbean Rhythms Meet Modern Jazz Mastery 鈥� The Sound
of 'Fiesta at Caroga

Led by guitarist Jose Guzman, The Afro-Caribbean Jazz Collective blends the heart of Afro-Caribbean rhythms with the sophistication of modern jazz. Their third album, "Fiesta at Caroga," has been making waves in the jazz world. It's been featured on jazz radio stations across the country, received glowing reviews from music critics, and charted on JazzWeek's Top 100 Jazz Albums of 2024.

A native of Ponce, Puerto Rico, Guzm谩n is a versatile guitarist, performing across jazz, classical, and rock genres. He served as an artist-in-residence at the Caroga Lake Music Festival and earned the 2020 Urbana Arts Grant to compose works blending Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican rhythms. His projects have also been supported by Chicago鈥檚 Department of Cultural Affairs, Illinois Arts Council, Music Performance Trust Fund, and Urbana Arts for the development and growth of the band. Guzman recordings include Dimitrije Vasiljevic, KASA String Quartet, and Mr. Chair.
